Combined athlete frenzel wins world cup - edelmann third

With the first individual victory in 13 months for world champion frenzel and third place for edelmann, germany’s nordic combined athletes in seefeld caused another sensation one week after their double triumph in chaux-neuve. "We are in a really good position at the moment. We have pulled ourselves out of a small hole and are getting into shape in time for the world championships", said frenzel.

After a jump and the 10-kilometer cross-country race in 25:59.1 minutes, the athlete from oberwiesenthal relegated norwegian magnus moan to second place by 20.4 seconds. Edelmann sprinted one week after his successes in the individual and team sprint alongside frenzel to third place. Manuel faibt from baiersbronn completed the excellent result of the DSV combined athletes with an eleventh place.

With a jump of 99.5 meters frenzel had laid the foundation for success. He was 30 seconds behind the leading austrian bernhard gruber, who was caught up by the germany-express with frenzel, edelmann and johannes rydzek after six kilometers. "It’s always our imperative to work together. We did that very well", frenzel praised the teamwork.

While rydzek lost his rhythm because of a broken pole and in the end was still behind fabian rieble (16.) and bjorn kircheisen (21.) was pushed through to 23rd place, frenzel picked up the pace at the front and away he went. "On the last two laps i felt very good. When the hole suddenly appeared, I naturally tried to use it for myself. And it ended well," the 24-year-old reported.

On the final lap frenzel skied away from the top for his first individual victory since april 4. December 2011 home in lillehammer. "I felt very good running, was able to tackle my race well. When i was down the steep hill and realized that i had enough of a head start, i was sure of what i was doing," frenzel said.
